Liwan Sessions - Teaming Up: Sports and Public Art
NEW TIME : Thursday, October 27, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Panel will be in ARABIC
With 40 new public artworks installed in 2022, from a light installation by Shilpa Gupta at Stadium 974 to a desert installation by Olafur Eliasson, Qatar has transformed into an outdoor museum experience. Many of the public art pieces also coincide with Qatar hosting the largest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup. With a history of sculptures commemorating sporting events, athletes, and achievements, what impact do public art pieces have on the public, institution, artist and the event itself? Join our Liwan Sessions with renowned artist and sculptor Ahmed Albahrani and the director of public art at Qatar Museums, Abdulrahman Al-Ishaq, for a discussion on the relationship between sporting events and public art.
